Special drive to detect leakages- Delhi Jal Board http://delhinewsagency.com/special-drive-to-detect-leakages-delhi-jal-board/ http://delhinewsagency.com/special-drive-to-detect-leakages-delhi-jal-board/#comments Wed, 10 Jun 2015 10:11:54 +0000 http://delhinewsagency.com/?p=4219 New Delhi :- Special drive launched by the Delhi Jal Board last month to detect leakages in the pipelines and to plug them has been quite successful. The CEO Delhi Jal Board, Shri SS Yadav today informed that  in the limited period of one month, the DJB teams have detected 310 leakages. The leakages detected were plugged immediately. The leakages include both surface leakages which are easy to detect as well as hidden leakages which are detected with the help of instruments.  Millions of litres of water have been saved by detecting and plugging these leakages.

Shri Yadav further informed that DJB has constituted 20 special squads for detection of leakages. These squads patrol the city round the clock, specially during the water supply hours to detect the leakages. The special squads have been equipped with latest instruments and gadgets to detect hidden leakages. Leakages detected are informed immediately to the maintenance division concerned which have been directed to take urgent steps to plug the leakages to prevent wastage of water. Plugging of leakages is being closely monitored by senior officers. He further informed that DJB has developed a state of art geographical information system (GIS). The leakages detected are plotted on the GIS maps. This gives instant information to DJB about the areas vulnerable to hidden and surface leakages. Equipped with this data, DJB has prepared a plan of action to replace the pipelines which will be executed in the current financial year. Replacement of pipelines will help in reducing the number of leakages in the vulnerable areas in future.

Detection and plugging of leakages has not only helped DJB in saving millions of liters of water but will also help in reducing non revenue water. DJB is working hard to supply maximum possible water daily to the people of Delhi in an equitable manner. Water production has gone up from 835 MGD to 880 MGD. More than 100 colonies which were dependent on tanker water supply has been brought to piped water supply network in last one year. With commissioning of new water treatment plants at Dwarka and Bawana, there has been tremendous improvement in water supply situation in Delhi this year.DJB appeals to the people to inform the DJB helpline if they find leakage in any pipeline. A 24×7 help line 1916 has been set up by the DJB .The helpline is backed by a professionally managed call centre. Apart from leakages, the people can use the helpline for filing their complaints through this helpline.
