First SAARC satellite to launch by 2016: ISRO Chairman

Thiruvananthapuram : ISRO chairman, A.S. Kiran Kumar on Monday confirmed that Indian Space Agency is planning to launch its first satellite by the end of 2016. There was a one day meeting with all SAARC nations on 22nd June, 2015 in which five representatives from each participating country took place. Kiran Kumar told reporters at Akkulam near Thiruvananthapuram, adding that spectrum finalisation for the satellite was being worked out”, Kiran Kumar told reporters. Modi had asked the scientists to work on a satellite that would provide full range of applications and services to all of India’s neighbours.Isro after the launch on Friday said it has planned a string of launches, including GSLV-Mark II next month and three more navigational satellites before March 2016. Kumar said four had already been launched and three more are expected to be launched before March 2016.
